SPIRIT OF THE PONY EXPRESS
Line Producer | Feature-Length Documentary
In 2010, I signed on as Line Producer, as well as part of the core creative team, for a documentary celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Pony Express—and what was supposed to be a quick, three-week shoot in St. Joseph, Missouri turned into an unforgettable 11-month wild west adventure. We crisscrossed the country three times, filming the historic trail and the places that helped shape the legacy of America's early mail service. We interviewed passionate historians who live and breathe this history and followed dedicated reenactors as they rode horseback through eight states, stopping at every landmark town where locals turned out to cheer them on. The National Park Service backed us with grant support, and we worked hand-in-hand with them to bring the story to life. Along the way, we met some incredible characters, captured never-before-seen footage, and ended up with a film that history buffs (and even a few skeptics) could be proud of.
